Why is it thin?
Painted on the roof of the building is a clear glass window, showing the exterior.
The film is supposed to prevent water from getting into the building from the street below.
A few weeks ago, the building was razed to make way for the construction of the new airport.
Construction crews were trying to remove a piece of plastic from a roof, which is supposed in theory to be a sealant, when it broke off and flew into the sky.
An investigation revealed that the roof had been cracked.
Now, the company that made the film is suing the city of Miami for damages.
“The city and the building contractor, HKS Engineering, failed to comply with the manufacturer’s instructions for protecting the roof and that resulted in the destruction of the roof,” the lawsuit says.
HKS Engineering is the same company that manufactured the protective film for the exterior of the Empire State Building.
Miami-Dade is the largest city in Florida.
This is not the first time that a company has sued a city for not protecting its roof.
In 2015, the city sued the company responsible for protecting its rooftop.
A Miami judge ruled that the city had not properly provided the film to protect the roof from the rain.
As a result, the roof fell in the city.
